MARSHALL — The Lyon County Museum is ready for the holidays — and so are visitors, museum director Jennifer Andries said this week. People came out for the opening of this year’s indoor Christmas tree walk at the museum over the weekend.
“Saturday was pretty steady, and yesterday was pretty busy too, for a Monday,” Andries said Tuesday.
The display of trees decorated by area organizations has become a holiday tradition, she said. Lots of people like to bring their families to the tree walk after Thanksgiving. “If the weather is nice, we’ll be really busy Friday and Saturday.”
This year, a total of 25 trees are part of the indoor walk. Participation is holding steady after last year saw a record 26 trees decorated, Andries said.
“We have a few new groups this year,” she said.
Each of the trees on display was decorated by a local business, nonprofit, family or other organization. Visitors can vote for their favorites by putting money inside donation boxes at the foot of each tree. The proceeds will go to support the museum’s mission of preserving Lyon County history.
The first, second and third-place competition winners will receive prizes of Marshall Chamber Dollars.
Voting for the Christmas Tree Walk will be open through Dec. 31. In addition to voting at the museum, people can also vote for their favorite tree online at the Lyon County Museum’s website, www.lyoncomuseum.org.
There are a few different holiday events that the Lyon County Historical Society are gearing up for, Andries said. On Dec. 7, the Holiday Home Tour fundraiser will give guests a chance to visit four different Marshall homes decorated for the season. Tickets are available at the museum.
The following weekend, the museum will host its Holiday Fun Day. On the afternoon of Dec. 13, visitors can enjoy holiday treats, crafts and activities at the museum. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also visit from 1-2 p.m.
