Level 3 offender meeting is Wednesday in Walnut Grove
WALNUT GROVE — The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Department of Corrections will be holding a community notification meeting Wednesday about a level 3 registered sex offender who is relocating to Walnut Grove.
Duane Lloyd Swanson, a level 3 registrant who is subject to public notification, will be moving to Walnut Grove on Oct. 16, the Sheriff’s Office said. Representatives from the Department of Corrections and the Sheriff’s Office will be at the Walnut Grove Community Center at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to provide public safety information and answer questions from the public.
Minnesota has three levels of registered sex offenders. Level 3 is considered at the highest risk to re-offend, according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
Swanson, 55, was convicted of sexual offenses involving a teenage male, and for possession of child sexual abuse material, a fact sheet from the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office said. Swanson served his sentence and was released in 2013, the fact sheet said.
The Sheriff’s Office said the notification meeting is intended to raise awareness, not to increase fear. They said residents should report any criminal activity to 911.
