Construction progress continues in Marshall
Both state and city street work has made progress this fall

Concrete paving is now in place on a new roundabout near the National Guard Armory in Marshall.
MARSHALL — Street construction projects in Marshall have continued to make progress this fall, the Minnesota department of Transportation and local officials said this week.
In an update on the reconstruction of Highway 19 (West College Drive), MnDOT said concrete paving of a new roundabout near the National Guard Armory was completed this week. At the same time, new sewer and water mains have been installed under Highway 19 near Legion Field Park.
This week, MnDOT gave a rundown on the construction happening at each of the four segments of the Highway 19 project going on this year. Stage 1, from Fairgrounds Road to the bridge near Legion Field, was the first part of the construction to get started. Now only minor items remain to complete in that area, MnDOT said. The roadway is open to local traffic.
Stage 2 of construction, between Main Street and Greeley Street, still has electrical work being done. MnDOT said work continues to install street lights and a traffic signal system at the intersection of Highway 19 and Saratoga Street. The Greeley Street crossing was closed, so electrical work could be done in the intersection.
Stage 3 of construction affects Highway 19 between Fourth Street and North Greeley Street, and includes the new roundabout. MnDOT said paving of the roundabout is now done, and concrete work is underway for sidewalks, driveways, and pedestrian access. Street crossings on South Second Street, Country Club Drive, and Fourth Street are still closed.
The last stage of construction, Stage 4, runs from the Legion Field bridge to Fourth Street. MnDOT said this week that new sewer and water mains and storm sewers have been installed under the street. Construction is now going on to connect water and sewer services to local residents and the Legion Field athletic complex, MnDOT said.
Local projects make progress
In a “Marshall Minute” update last week, Marshall Mayor Bob Byrnes said some city street and trail projects were also nearing completion. One reconstruction project affected streets in the Hill Street area, near Avera Marshall Medical Center.
The project replaced water and sewer lines and rebuilt streets on parts of South Hill Street, South Minnesota Street and Charles Avenue. Byrnes said that last week asphalt street paving was being completed in the area, which would bring the project to a close.
Another city project under construction includes a new trail between A Street and Southview Drive, which will run past Marshall Middle School and Southview Elementary.
Last week, Byrnes said, “The grading and the gravel has been completed, and the concrete paver will arrive shortly. Hopefully we’ll complete that this fall.”
Byrnes said the trail project was funded by federal and state grants.
