Trackchair back in running for ‘Coolest’ MN product
MARSHALL — An all-terrain wheelchair made in Marshall is once again in the running to be “the coolest thing made in Minnesota.”
This week ATZ Manufacturing, formerly Action Manufacturing, advanced past the first slate of 64 competitors in the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce’s Coolest Thing Made in Minnesota contest. Members of the public can vote to support the Trackchair, along with a wide variety of other Minnesota products.
“We’re excited to be back in the competition this year,” said Adam Henning, marketing director at ATZ Manufacturing.
This week, the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce announced that the Trackchair advanced to the top 32 bracket in the contest. The competition was founded last year, as a way to spotlight Minnesota manufacturing. Voters can support their favorite products made in Minnesota, as they advance through a March Madness-style bracket.
The contest features a total of five rounds of public voting before the contest winner is announced at the 2025 Manufacturer’s Summit on Oct. 7.
“Round one drew an incredible response, with thousands of votes cast across the state,” said Doug Loon, president and CEO of the Minnesota Chamber. “What’s exciting is seeing both large manufacturers and small hometown companies advance — and the way their employees and communities are rallying behind them. This contest is already shining a spotlight on the pride Minnesotans have in what we make here.”
This will be the Trackchair’s second time in the competition. In 2024, they were among the top four contestants in the state.
Voting for the current round of the contest started Sept. 8, and the top 16 winners will be announced Monday. In this round, the Trackchair is competing in a matchup against the EXV2 Patriot Electric Utility Truck, from e-ride Industries.
The Trackchair had strong support in last year’s event, including from customers and from members of the Marshall area business community, Henning said. He said the Trackchair seemed to be a good example of what the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce wanted to highlight with the contest.
In a news release, the Minnesota Chamber said companies across the state have a history of innovation with new products. Manufacturing also represents a significant part of Minnesota’s economy, and employs 325,000 people statewide.
“We set the bar high by getting to the final four last year,” Henning said. The Trackchair was up against some big names in Minnesota-made products. The winner of the 2024 contest was 3M’s Scotch tape.
“We’re hoping we’ll win this year,” Henning said.
