Marshall student hit by vehicle near Southview Elementary
MARSHALL — A Marshall Public Schools student was injured Friday morning, when they were struck by a vehicle in the crosswalk near Southview Elementary. MPS Superintendent Jeremy Williams said the student was transported from the scene to receive medical care.
The incident is under investigation, Williams said. Personal details of the student are not being released at this time, out of respect for the student and their family, he said.
In a news release, Williams urged drivers to follow posted speed limits, watch for children crossing the street, and follow directions given by school crossing guards.
There was a crosswalk with a crossing guard and flashing lights at Southview at the time of Friday’s incident, Williams said.
“We remind the community to be extra cautious at those locations. These are our children,” he said.
Williams said counseling resources were being made available to students and staff affected by the event. The school district is also in contact with the student’s family, and will continue to offer support as needed, he said.
