Saratoga/College intersection to close Monday
MARSHALL — Drivers in Marshall will need to plan for some changes as they travel through the ongoing construction area on Minnesota Highway 19 (College Drive) next week. Starting Monday morning, the road crossing at Saratoga Street and College Drive will be closed, said Erika Coudron of R and G Construction.
R and G’s subcontractors will begin working at the intersection of Saratoga and Highway 19 at 6:30 a.m. Monday. Travelers will need to find an alternate route, Coudron said.
There are still several Highway 19 crossings that remain open in Marshall, including North Greeley Street, Marlene Street, Legion Field Road, Parkview Drive and Fourth Street. Marvin Schwan Memorial Drive will serve as the access to downtown public parking lots.
Work has continued on the reconstruction of part of Minnesota Highway 19 (College Drive) in Marshall, the Minnesota Department of Transportation reported this week. In a construction update, MnDOT said crews were pouring concrete for turn lanes, sidewalks and driveways on West College Drive between Main Street and North Greeley Street.
The concrete work for a new right-turn-only intersection at Marvin Schwan Memorial Drive and College Drive is now finished, MnDOT said. An island at the intersection will give right-in/right-out access to Marvin Schwan Memorial Drive.
Between Fourth Street and North Greeley Street, construction continues to install new water main and sewer lines. Utility companies are also relocating lines in the construction area, MnDOT said.
Traffic on Highway 19 is still detoured onto Lyon County Road 7 and Minnesota Highway 23, MnDOT said. Part of Highway 19, from Channel Parkway to Fourth Street, is open to local traffic. However, MnDOT said there are still orange channelizers present on the center of the road, and drivers should watch for workers in the area.
During construction, Highway 19 crossings are closed at South Second Street, Country Club Drive, Artillery Road, Timmerman Drive and North Greeley Street.
