Reyes appears in court on arson charges

MARSHALL — A man charged with arson in connection with a Florence house fire appeared in Lyon County District Court on Tuesday, court records said. A plea hearing date for Moises Reyes, 29, was set in September.

Moises is charged with one count of first degree arson. A criminal complaint alleges that Reyes set his mother’s house in Florence on fire. The complaint alleged that Reyes initially told law enforcement he was working outside the house when he noticed smoke coming from inside, and tried to put out the fire. However, after further questioning, Reyes told law enforcement he was “frustrated,” and had lit a gas can on fire and threw it on candles set up in his bedroom, the complaint alleged.

Online court records said a hearing was held for Reyes on Tuesday morning. The court found probable cause for the charges, and a future hearing date was set for September 9.
