Pipestone woman sentenced for slashing infant
A woman from Pipestone was sentenced to more than eight years in prison this week, after cutting an infant’s face with a pizza cutter at a Rochester day care center last year.
In June, a jury found Andrianna Quanae Newburn, 27, guilty of seven charges, including first degree assault and child torture.
Last year, Newburn was in an argument with a co-worker at a day care in Rochester, a criminal complaint said. Newburn grabbed a pizza cutter from a back room and threatened to cut the co-worker. The complaint alleged Newburn told the co-worker, “If I can’t cut you, I’ll cut your kids.” The complaint said witnesses told police Newburn began swinging the pizza cutter at the co-worker’s 14-month-old baby, cutting the child on the cheek. The complaint said Newburn also fought with the co-worker, but the two were separated and Newburn left the business with her own children.
The complaint said Newburn told police that the co-worker had threatened her children, and admitted intentionally going after the co-worker’s baby.
The injured baby had to have surgery for the wound, and was left with a facial scar, the criminal complaint said.
A sentencing hearing for Newburn was held Monday in Olmsted County District Court, court documents said. She was sentenced to 98 months in prison, with credit for 430 days already served.
