New MMU manager selected

MARSHALL — A new general manager is planned to start work at Marshall Municipal Utilities in September, MMU staff confirmed this week.

After a search and interview process this summer, candidate Pete Wyffels was selected to be the new general manager, said MMU administrative and communications assistant Jamie Lee. Wyffels has 34 years of utility experience, and for the past three years he served as the electric director for the city of Chaska, Lee said.

Wyffels’ official work start date at MMU will be Sept. 2, Lee said.

MMU began a hiring search for a general manager earlier this spring, after David Schelkoph announced he planned to retire. Schelkoph, who was hired by MMU in 2020, came to Marshall with 26 years of experience in electric utilities. He had previously served as city administrator and utility manager in Valley City, N.D.

Over the past five years, MMU completed some major projects under Schelkoph’s management, including construction of a water treatment plant to pre-soften city water.

Starting at $3.95/week.
