MARSHALL — For those looking for another opportunity to find local produce, pastries and treats during the summer, the Marshall’s Farmers Market is hosting a midweek market every Tuesday through the end of August.

Located between City Hall and Main Stay Cafe, community members joined the plaza Tuesday evening to check out a few vendors, some of which are also at the Saturday farmers market.

“This is our second time here (at the midweek market),” Joan Schuttler of the Sweets and Treats said. “(We have) jams, jellies, tomato juice, and homemade bread which was made fresh this morning.”

Schuttler also had her table filled with homemade cupcakes and cookies, and mentioned it’s her first year participating in farmers markets after recently retiring.

Although smaller than the weekend market, Tuesday’s offer community members another chance to take a quick trip out to pick up fresh produce, baked goods and take a look at some crafts.

Laura Nybo of LCC Sweets partakes in both Marshall markets during the week, and mentioned the season has been going well for her.

“It’s a nice little setup and easy in the middle of the week,” Nybo said. “We’ll be at the (Marshall) Fair, I’m getting ready for that now.”

LCC Sweets brings a large variety of freeze-dried fruit and candy, which typically can be found selling out fast during most markets.

Gary and Marsha Boverhof of Boverhof Produce had a large table set up across the patio with a variety of homegrown produce and homemade pastries, also gathering a lot of eyes.

“Our’s (farmer market season) is going good … Our crops look good, and we are trying the midweek market,” Gary said. “So far, it’s going good.”

“We’ve had a lot of comments from vendors or from customers on Saturdays like, ‘Oh, I can’t come every Saturday,'” Gary said, who also serves on the board of the Marshall Farmers Market. “So, we thought Tuesday was going to work well. We’ve had a lot of customers here say that they just can’t make it on Saturday.”

Boverhof Produce has gained popularity around the area, and has become a family business, bringing their crops to several towns throughout the week.

“We have two markets that we do on Wednesdays. We have a big one on Thursday down in Luverne,” Gary said. “We’ve been in it for 20-some years … Now, we do seven (markets) a week.”

Marsha noted they began getting involved in farmers markets in 2002, and the two have enjoyed expanding their booth and involving their kids as well.

The Boverhofs’ table had a large spread of corn, peppers, cabbage, peas, breads, cookies and more.

Gary also said the Saturday Marshall farmers markets have had a good turnout through the first part of the season, and also have a waitlist of vendors wanting to join.

The Saturday market will continue every weekend through October from 7:30 a.m. to noon in the parking lot on the backside of the YMCA, while the Tuesday midweek markets can be found downtown from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for the next month.

Starting at $3.95/week.
