One dead in Granite Falls plane crash
GRANITE FALLS — One person is dead after a plane crash reported Monday evening near Granite Falls, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office said. Both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified of the crash and will be conducting an investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Around 5:23 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a jet aircraft with two people on board experiencing engine trouble near the Granite Falls Airport. About 10 minutes later, the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting that the aircraft had crashed near Highway 23, just north of the intersection with Yellow Medicine County Road 39.
When emergency responders arrived on the scene, one individual was found standing alongside the highway, the Sheriff’s Office said. That person received medical attention, the Sheriff’s Office said. The second occupant of the aircraft was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office said the names of the people involved in the crash are being withheld pending notification of family. A news release from the Sheriff’s Office did not give further details on the incident.
