Trial dates canceled in insurance fraud case
MARSHALL — Trial dates that were originally set this week for a Marshall man charged with insurance fraud have been taken off the Lyon County District Court calendar, court records said. Instead of a trial, a hearing for a scheduling conference was set for Wednesday.
A notice filed in Lyon County District Court on Tuesday said a Zoom hearing was set for July 9 in the case of Kenneth James DeBaere. DeBaere, 55,was charged with two counts of insurance fraud, and one count of forgery, in a criminal case that was filed in Lyon County in 2023.
A criminal complaint alleges that in 2020, DeBaere backdated and forged a new commercial insurance policy application for a client. The client was involved in a work-related accident connected to a house explosion near Marshall in August 2020, the complaint alleged. The complaint alleged that the client’s liability policy was canceled in February 2020.
Jury trial dates that had been set for July 9-11 in the case were no longer on the Lyon County court calendar as of Tuesday.
