Country Club Drive detour starts July 8

Road to close for roundabout construction

MARSHALL — Workers are getting ready for the start of construction of a roundabout near the National Guard Armory in Marshall, representatives of R and G Construction and the Minnesota Department of Transportation said Thursday.

Part of Country Club Drive will close down starting Tuesday, July 8, as work on the roundabout gets underway. The street will be closed from Southview Drive to Highway 19 (West College Drive).

Traffic will be detoured onto Southview Drive and U.S. Highway 59 until the end of September, depending on circumstances like weather, MnDOT said.

Construction of a roundabout at the three-way intersection near the Armory is part of the ongoing major reconstruction of Highway 19 in Marshall. Work is already underway on part of Highway 19 starting near Fairgrounds Road, and between Saratoga Street and Main Street.

At a Thursday construction update meeting, Scott Mathiowetz of R and G Construction said new utility pipes had been installed between Greeley and Main Street. Electrical conduit for traffic lights at the College Drive/Saratoga Street intersection would be going in Monday, he said.

“After that we’ll get it back to gravel, and then we’re going to get it passable through Saratoga and open that up just in time to close the roundabout section,” he said.

During construction on Highway 19, through traffic is being detoured onto Lyon County Road 7 and Minnesota Highway 23. Highway 19 remains closed between Fairgrounds Road and Main Street, while Fourth Street and North Greeley Street remain open to cross Highway 19.

Local businesses are open, and access will be available to them, said Erika Coudron of R and G Construction.

Starting July 8, Timmerman Drive and Artillery Drive near the Armory will be closed, and South Second Street will be closed at Highway 19, MnDOT said.

MnDOT and contractors on the highway project will continue to hold weekly construction update meetings, Thursdays at 10 a.m. at Marshall City Hall. Meetings are open to the public. MnDOT will also post updates on its Southwest Minnesota Facebook group and on its project website, mndot.gov/d8/projects/hwy19marshall.

Starting at $3.95/week.
