Marshall man pleads guilty to wrongfully obtaining assistance charges

MARSHALL — A Marshall business owner pleaded guilty in Lyon County District Court to three counts of wrongfully obtaining assistance, court records said. Thomas Scott Pearcy, 55, entered an Alford plea to three out of a total six charges against him.

In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt of a crime, but does acknowledge that there would be enough evidence for a jury to find them guilty at a trial.

A complaint filed in Lyon County in April alleged that Pearcy did not report all his income on applications for medical assistance between 2019 and 2025. It resulted in an overpayment of about $92,000 worth of medical assistance, the complaint alleged.

The complaint alleged that Pearcy told police he did not intentionally leave out income sources on his applications.

Lyon County District Court records said Pearcy appeared in court Tuesday. Court records said a plea agreement was reached in the case, and Pearcy pleaded guilty to three counts of wrongfully obtaining assistance via an Alford plea.

The court ordered a pre-sentencing investigation, and a sentencing hearing for Pearcy was set for Aug. 19, court records said.
