Fire Department responds to gas leak at mobile home park
MARSHALL — A gas leak reported Tuesday night led to the temporary evacuation of some residents at the Broadmoor Valley mobile home park in Marshall, the Marshall Fire Department said.
A leaking gas valve at a vacant lot on Timberlane Drive was repaired, said Marshall Fire Chief Quentin Brunsvold.
Access to Broadmoor Valley was temporarily blocked as the Fire Department responded at the scene, Brunsvold said.
Around 8:14 p.m., the fire department received a call of a possible gas leak. Brunsvold said the neighbor of a property on Timberlane Drive reported the leak. When the fire department arrived at Broadmoor Valley, gas was coming from a valve at a gas connection on the property, he said.
“We did evacuate a few people based on the wind direction,” Brunsvold said. At the time, the wind was blowing out of the south-southeast, so responders evacuated residents at about four homes to the northwest of the gas leak, Brunsvold said.
Brunsvold said a Broadmoor Valley employee tried to fix the gas leak, but was unsuccessful. Great Plains Natural Gas was called in to stop the leak.
Brunsvold said the lot where the leaking valve was located was relatively close to the entrance of the mobile home park on Saratoga Street. With the Fire Department at the scene, access to part of Broadmoor Valley was temporarily blocked, he said.
