Contractors give update on Hwy. 19 progress
MARSHALL — A rainy weather forecast might lead to some muddy conditions along the Highway 19 construction zone in Marshall. But at a weekly informational meeting Thursday, representatives of R and G Construction said they were working to have a gravel road surface in place for residents along Parkview Drive, Paul Street and Marlene Street.
Reconstruction of Highway 19 is still ongoing in the area near Marlene Street. R and G representatives said they were working with residents in a nearby neighborhood, to keep them informed and to allow access to their homes. A gravel road surface was also being put in to help residents.
On Wednesday, the city of Marshall also posted an updated map on Facebook, showing how residents of Parkview Drive, Paul Street and Marlene Street could access their homes. Highway 19 between 4th Street and Parkview Drive will be open for local residents only, and residents must use Parkview Drive to enter and exit off of Highway 19.
People can still access Fairgrounds Road, and businesses along the western part of Highway 19 in Marshall, from the west by taking Channel Parkway.
Work has also continued on the next segment of the Highway 19 project, near the intersection of Saratoga Street. R and G representatives said utility companies were working on relocating utility lines that could interfere with construction at the Saratoga Street intersection.
At Thursday’s meeting, R and G representatives said they would also be asking to keep working a little longer than planned before Memorial Day weekend, and to start work a little earlier after Memorial Day. Normally, they would need to stop work at noon on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, they said.
