School bus crash reported near Seaforth

SEAFORTH — A school bus carrying students from Wabasso Public School was involved in a crash Wednesday morning south of Seaforth.

No serious injuries were reported, but nine students received follow-up treatment after the crash, Wabasso Superintendent Jon Fulton said.

Around 8:15 a.m., a school bus driven by Edward Aslesen, 72, of Milroy, was involved in a collision with a pickup truck driven by Brandon Tusler, 23, of Welcome, the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office said. The crash was reported at Redwood County Road 7 and 280th Street. The bus was traveling east on 280th Street, and Aslesen failed to yield the right of way upon entering the intersection, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash remains under investigation, the Sheriff’s office said.

In a message to parents that was posted on the Wabasso Public School Facebook page, Fulton said there were no serious injuries reported among students on the bus, the bus driver or the driver of the other vehicle. However, he said nine Wabasso students were transported to area hospitals for follow-up treatment.

“Emergency personnel were notified immediately and assisted with the situation,” Fulton said in his message to parents. “We are thankful for the State Patrol, fire department, sheriff and ambulance crews in our area.”

Fulton said a counselor would be available to help students experiencing anxiety from the crash.

The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota State Patrol, Wabasso Fire and Ambulance, CentraCare EMS, and North Memorial Ambulance all responded at the crash scene.
