Fischbach, Simon events in area Friday

MARSHALL — A member of Congress and a Minnesota state official will be in southwest Minnesota on Friday, at events in Marshall and Granite Falls. U.S. Rep. Michelle Fischbach will appear at the Lyon County Republican headquarters in Marshall on Friday morning, and Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon will be stopping in downtown Granite Falls Friday afternoon.

Fishbach is running for re-election in Minnesota’s Congressional District 7, which covers most of the western part of the state, including Lyon and surrounding counties. Earlier this year, Fischbach faced a Republican challenger when Steve Boyd, a rural Kensington business owner, ran for the CD7 seat. In April, Republican delegates in CD7 failed to endorse a candidate for the Congressional race, leading to a primary in August.

Fischbach won the primary against Boyd with a strong lead. According to unofficial vote results from the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office, Fischbach received about 64% of votes in the Republican primary. Fischbach led among Republican primary voters in Lyon County, receiving 732 votes to Boyd’s 341.

Fischbach will face Democratic-Farmer-Labor candidate AJ Peters in November’s election.

Fischbach will appear in Marshall at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, at the Lyon County Republican headquarters at 1220 East College Drive.

Simon in Granite Falls Friday afternoon

Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon will be stopping in Granite Falls Friday as part of a statewide listening tour, said representatives of CURE (formerly Clean Up the River Environment).

The visit will highlight the start of Minnesota early voting on Oct. 7. CURE spokespeople said Simon will also talk about issues related to voting, including what his office will be doing to fight back against the possibility of disinformation being amplified by AI technology, and an overview of new laws governing elections.

Simon will be in Granite Falls at 3 p.m. Friday, at the Bluenose Gopher Public House on Prentice Street.

Starting at $4.38/week.
