Cottonwood man killed in crash with semi
CLARKFIELD — A Cottonwood man died Thursday in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi truck hauling gravel, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office said. Robert Proctor, 60, was pronounced dead at the crash scene, while the driver of the semi was taken to Avera Granite Falls Hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries.
The crash was reported at about 4:06 p.m. Thursday, at the intersection of Yellow Medicine County Road 8 and 250th Avenue, the Sheriff’s Office said. A 1997 Ford F150 driven by Proctor was westbound on 250th Avenue, and failed to yield at the intersection, the Sheriff’s Office said. The Ford collided with a 2010 Peterbilt semi pulling a loaded gravel trailer. Both vehicles ended up in the ditch southwest of the intersection, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Proctor was pronounced dead at the scene. He was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner for an autopsy, the Sheriff’s Office said. The driver of the semi, Mark Oftedahl, 57, of Hanley Falls, was taken to the Granite Falls hospital by private party and treated for injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Clarkfield Fire and Ambulance, Granite Falls Ambulance, and the Minnesota State Patrol all responded at the crash scene.
