Minnesota voters head to polls Tuesday

MARSHALL — Minnesotans will be heading to the polls on Tuesday to narrow down the field of Republican and DFL candidates in congressional races.

On the ballot will be candidates running for U.S. senator, and U.S. representative in Congressional District 7.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at a total of 10 polling places around Lyon County. Voters in precincts that are using mail-in ballots will need to make sure their mailed ballots arrive at the Lyon County Government Center before Election Day, or deliver their ballots in person.

Ballots returned in person must be delivered by 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The Auditor/Treasurer’s Office at the Lyon County Government Center said it will have extended hours for absentee voting today and Monday, Aug. 12. Voters can cast absentee ballots from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday.

Within Lyon County, there are a mix of precincts with in-person voting, and those that opted for mail-in ballots. The in-person voting precincts include the cities of Balaton, Cottonwood, Marshall, Minneota, Russell, Lynd and Tracy, as well as Nordland, Westerheim, Island Lake, Lyons, Clifton and Lynd townships.

There are three polling places for the city of Marshall. Marshall Ward 1 will vote at the Red Baron Arena, Ward 2 will vote at Marshall Middle School, and Ward 3 will vote at the Marshall Area YMCA.

In Balaton, the polling place will be the Balaton Community Center. In Cottonwood, the polling place will be the Cottonwood Community Center. The Minneota Community Center will be the polling place for the city of Minneota, Nordland Township and Westerheim Township. The Russell Community Center will be the polling place for the city of Russell, Island Lake Township and Lyons Township. The polling place for Clifton Township will be at the Clifton Township Hall. Lynd City Hall will be the polling place for the city of Lynd and Lynd Township. The polling place for the city of Tracy will be the Veterans Memorial Center in Tracy.

A total of 18 precincts have opted to use mail ballots, including the cities of Florence, Garvin, Ghent and Taunton, and Amiret, Coon Creek, Custer, Eidsvold, Fairview, Grandview, Lake Marshall, Lucas, Monroe, Rock Lake, Shelburne, Sodus, Stanley and Vallers townships.

The polling place for mail ballot precincts is the Lyon County Auditor/Treasurer’s Office, on the second floor of the Lyon County Government Center.
