‘A great mentor’
Novosad recognized for 68 years of VFW Auxiliary service
MARSHALL — A local member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary was recently recognized for the impact she’s made over years of service. The Marshall VFW Auxiliary said this summer Lois Novosad was honored for her 68 years of membership at the VFW convention in Rochester.
At the convention, VFW National Auxiliary President Carla Martinez presented Novosad with an official coin. At the VFW Auxiliary Third District convention in Westbrook, Novosad also retired from being treasurer, after 52 years of service.
Novosad has held various positions in both the local Auxiliary and the Third District Auxiliary, and has chaired various programs, the Marshall Auxiliary said.
“She has been our ‘go-to’ person for questions and answers. She has been a great mentor to all of us,” said Auxiliary member Kathy Brockberg. Local Auxiliary members wanted to thank Novosad for her continued support of veterans.
Novosad joined the VFW in 1956, under the eligibility of her husband Jim, the Marshall Auxiliary said. Lois was a chartered member of the VFW Auxiliary in Arlington, and transferred membership to Marshall when she and Jim moved here.
The VFW Auxiliary is a veterans’ service organization established in 1914. VFW members are relatives of those who served in a location of foreign conflict. According to the VFW Auxiliary National Organization, members of more than 3,500 Auxiliaries across the U.S. volunteer and fundraise for charitable projects that benefit veterans, military service members and their families.
