Marshall school board seeks candidates to fill three open seats
MARSHALL – There are three open board seats on the Marshall Public Schools District board to be filled this fall during the Nov. 5 general election.
Applications for candidacy will open July 30 and run until 5 p.m. on Aug. 13, which must be filed in the office of the school district clerk. There will be an informational session held on July 30 at 4:30 p.m. at the public school district.
Seats held by board chair Matt Coleman and directors Bill Swope and Anne Marie Vorbach are up for election.
Vorbach, a Marshall resident and clinical psychologist for Avera Marshall, was sworn in on the board earlier this year in February to finish out Bill Mulso’s term that ends this year after he stepped down for another job opportunity. She has a daughter who graduated from Marshall high school and a son who currently attends.
Swope was an elementary school principal in Marshall for 28 years, 34 years total, and has been on the board for eight years, first elected in 2016. He originally began his teaching career in St. Paul.
Coleman has been on the board since 2006 and first moved to Marshall in 1986. His three daughters all grew up and graduated from Marshall high school. He currently works as a hog procurement manager for Smithfield Foods.
Members will be elected to a three-year term, according to Superintendent Jeremy Williams.
“Someone who is passionate about our schools, our kids and wants to be involved,” Williams said as to specific attributes.
Candidates must be an eligible voter, at least 21 years old, a resident of the district for at least 30 days before election and do not have any felonies.
Updates and information regarding the election can be found at the school district website.
