MARSHALL — The Marshall Farmers Market kicks off its 2024 season today.

Vendors and shoppers alike are ready for the market to open, Dan Wambeke said.

“Many vendors have already been getting questions from customers,” said Wambeke, president of the Marshall Farmers Market.

The market, which features a variety of vendors as well as events like live music, will be open on Saturday mornings through the end of October.

In addition to holding Saturday markets, vendors from the Farmers Market will also be heading downtown on select dates, as part of Thursdays on Third in Marshall.

“It’s an opportunity for local vendors to have more contact with the community,” Wambeke said.

Thursdays on Third will bring food vendors, music and a mini farmers market to Third Street on July 18, Aug. 15, and Sept. 19.

Shoppers should be able to find a variety of vendors from the market, Wambeke said. While there will be a produce vendor at each of the three Thursdays on Third dates, the selection of market vendors will be different each time.

There’s plenty of variety at the Saturday markets, too.

“There continues to be new interest from vendors,” Wambeke said.

Regular farmers market hours will be Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. until noon. The market is located in the parking lot between the Marshall Area YMCA and Schwan’s.

Wambeke said the Power of Produce (PoP) and Power of Produce Senior programs will also be returning to the farmers market this year. Through PoP, youths from ages 3-13 can receive a $2 token which they can exchange for a fruit or vegetable of their choice. The Power of Produce Senior program also gives people age 55 and older a $4 token for a fruit or vegetable of their choice.

This year, the program was made possible through sponsorships from ADM and Avera Marshall, market organizers said.

More information on the PoP program will be available at the information booth at the market. The information booth is also the place to get information on using SNAP or EBT at the farmers market.
