Trial set for Slayton man charged with criminal sexual conduct

A trial has been scheduled for a Slayton teacher who was charged with criminal sexual conduct last year, Murray County District Court records said. Trial dates for Nathan Ray Wieneke were set for Nov. 4-8, court records said.

Wieneke was charged with six counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of third-degree witness tampering. A criminal complaint alleges that in 2023, a group of students at West Elementary in Slayton reported to a paraprofessional that Wieneke had touched them inappropriately. The students allegedly told investigators that Wieneke would put his hand under their shirts and rub their backs when they went up to his desk to ask questions. One student said Wieneke later yelled at them when he found out they had talked to the paraprofessional, and asked what they had talked about, the complaint alleges.

Court records said a scheduling conference in Wieneke’s case was held Monday over Zoom. A future hearing date was set for Sept. 16. Courtroom minutes said dates were also set for a pre-trial hearing and a jury trial. The pre-trial hearing was set for Oct. 18, with a trial on Nov. 4-8.
