MARSHALL — A Marshall restaurant surprised customers when it closed last week.

The former Taco John’s property on East College Drive is up for sale, according to online commercial real estate listings. And it’s not the only Taco John’s in the region to close recently — the Taco John’s in Worthington has also shut down.

Taco John’s in Marshall was closed up and empty by May 2, and on Monday a work crew could be seen removing sign letters from the building.

Attempts by the Independent to contact the owners of the restaurant were unsuccessful as of Tuesday afternoon. However, staff at the Worthington Chamber of Commerce confirmed that the Taco John’s location in Worthington had also closed last week.

Both restaurants were listed for sale on Tuesday by the real estate website Crexi. The Marshall Taco John’s property was listed at $700,000, while the Worthington property was listed at $550,000.

According to the Taco John’s website, the chain has more than 360 restaurants in 23 states. The Marshall and Worthington locations are no longer listed on the company website, but there are still Taco John’s restaurants listed in Luverne, Fairmont, New Ulm, Brookings, and in the Sioux Falls area.
