Downtown parking lot construction makes progress

Concrete crews worked on the new surface of the Addison parking lot in Marshall on Friday. After paving work is completed, the concrete will need to cure, and have joints sealed.

MARSHALL — Concrete work on a downtown Marshall parking lot made significant progress this week. However, there is still work that will need to be done before the Addison parking lot is open to the public again, contractors said this week.

In a message shared with downtown business owners on Friday, Scott Mathiowetz of R and G Construction said the Addison lot concrete work has made progress, with the help of some drier weather conditions. Once the paving is finished, construction crews will need to wait for the concrete to gain strength, Mathiowetz said. After that, joints in the concrete will need to be sealed, and new parking stalls will need to be painted on the lot.

All the upcoming work on the Addison lot is scheduled to be done as soon as possible, Mathiowetz said. But the parking lot will stay closed until the construction cones around the lot are removed, and the city officially gives notice that the parking lot is reopened.

The Addison lot was closed for reconstruction in April. Work crews started by tearing out the old concrete in the lot, which had been in bad shape for many years. Reconstruction of the Addison lot is technically part of the same Marshall city project that rebuilt parts of North Third Street and Lyon Street downtown.

Starting at $3.95/week.
