Woman charged with murder in fentanyl death

PIPESTONE — A woman who was convicted of selling drugs in Lyon County in 2023 has now been charged with third degree murder in the death of a man in Pipestone County. A criminal complaint alleges that Miranda Michelle Sanow, 26, of St. Paul, sold fentanyl to a man who was found dead at a residence in Pipestone in 2022.

Sanow was charged with third degree murder and third degree controlled substance crime in Pipestone County District Court this week. A criminal complaint alleges that a man was found unresponsive in a Pipestone Residence on Nov. 17, 2022, and was later pronounced dead. An autopsy found that the man’s blood tested positive for fentanyl and norfentanyl, the complaint alleges. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office found a diagnosis of death of fentanyl toxicity.

The complaint alleges that CashApp transactions and cell phone data showed Sanow had been in contact with the man. Sanow also admitted to law enforcement that she sold the man the fentanyl that caused his death, the complaint alleges.

A hearing date for Sanow was set for April 16, Pipestone County court records said.

Last year, Sanow pleaded guilty to charges of third degree narcotics sale in Lyon County. In February 2023, the Brown Lyon Redwood Renville Drug Task Force conducted a search of an apartment in Balaton where Sanow was living. The search found fentanyl packaged for sale, as well as methamphetamine and marijuana, a criminal complaint said.
