Tactical unit responds to Marshall incident

Law enforcement blocked off traffic on East Main Street between A Street and First Street for at least four hours on Wednesday, in response to an incident on the 100 block of East Main.

Law enforcement officers at the scene did not comment on what was happening in the incident, but Lyon County Sheriff Eric Wallen said the Sheriff’s Office was assisting Marshall Police. The Brown, Lyon, Redwood, Renville Emergency Response Unit set up a staging area near the Casey’s gas station at the corner of Main and First Street, and later parked two ERU vehicles outside a house and nearby apartment building on the 100 block of East Main.

As of 9 p.m., part of East Main Street was still barricaded, and ERU members were still stationed on the 100 block.

Earlier in the evening, people on the sidewalk on the 100 block of East Main were directed to go indoors or leave the area. Numerous vehicles and officers from the Marshall Police Department and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department could be seen on the block. Local law enforcement were later joined by officers from agencies including the New Ulm Police, Redwood Falls Police, and Redwood County Sheriff’s Department.
