MARSHALL — Lyon County received a total of seven bids for a repair project on County Ditch 14 earlier this month. The low bid came in under an engineer’s estimate, county commissioners learned.

Commissioners met as a ditch authority on Tuesday morning to consider awarding a construction contract for the ditch repairs. The project, which commissioners voted to move forward on earlier this spring, would replace some drainage tile lines on CD 14, and build water retention structures.

Bids for the ditch repair project were opened on April 5, said Shaun Luker, an engineer with Bolton & Menk.

“We received seven proposals,” Luker said. “The bids ranged from $811,560.83 to $1,064,488.25. The low bid was 17% below the engineer’s estimate.”

The low bid, coming in at around $811,000, was submitted by Cooreman Contracting, of Tracy.

Luker said re-bidding the project would not likely result in lower or better bids. “With the seven bids, it was extremely competitive,” he said.

After a bid was awarded, work on the ditch repairs could potentially start in early to mid-May, Luker said.

“I presume that landowners will be compensated for crop damage?” asked commissioner Gary Crowley.

“Yes, that was included at the repair hearing,” Luker said.

Commissioners voted to award the bid to Cooreman Contracting, with commissioner Rick Anderson abstaining from the vote
