Busy weekend of events ahead in Marshall

MARSHALL — Upcoming weekend events in Marshall will bring a little something for everyone, from kids and families, to adults looking for a night out. Saturday will mark the return of the area Youth Sports and Activity Expo at the Red Baron Arena. Prairie Home Hospice and Community Care will also be turning back the clock to the 1980s at their annual charity event and auction. There’s a lot more to see and do, as well.

Spring Kindlmarkt at YMCA

Shoppers can have some fun browsing and supporting young entrepreneurs at the third annual Spring Kindlmarkt, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Marshall Area YMCA. More than a dozen area youth will be at the Y with crafts and products including jewelry, art, baked goods, books and more.

Youth Sports & Activity Expo

Kids and families can discover new interests and hobbies by checking out the Youth Sports and Activity Expo on Saturday. The expo will feature interactive booths where kids can explore and try out different activities, from sports to clubs and creative activities. Parents can also get information on how to sign up for youth programs and activities.

The Youth Sports and Activity Expo will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Red Baron Arena and Expo in Marshall.

Prairie Home Hospice and Community Care charity event

You can take a trip back in time to the 1980s this weekend, at Prairie Home Hospice and Community Care’s 39th annual charity event and auction. “Don’t Stop Believin’ – Let’s Journey Together” will kick off Saturday evening at The Upper Room in Marshall. A silent auction supporting Pairie Home Hospice and Community Care will start at 5 p.m. Saturday, followed by a 7 p.m. meal provided by Atlantic Place, and a live auction at 8 p.m.

Music, signature drinks and a mullet contest will all bring out the ’80s nostalgia, event organizers said.

Tickets to the charity event and auction are $75, and are available at the Prairie Home Hospice and Community Care office, at 1108 East College Drive in Marshall.

SMSU Music Alumni Weekend

Southwest Minnesota State University is bringing together past band and choir members for a weekend of fun and performances. The SMSU Music Program will be hosting a Music Alumni Weekend, with more than 60 alumni returning to campus. Most will be performing with the Alumni Band and Alumni Choir in concerts Saturday and Sunday.

About half of the returning alumni were music majors, but others came from many other degree programs and departments, event organizers said.

Members of the Alumni Band will perform in the SMSU/Community Concert Band and Symphonic Chamber Winds concert, titled “Oh, The Places You’ll Go,” on Saturday. The concert begins at 3 p.m. in the SMSU Fine Arts Theatre.

On Sunday, members of the Alumni Choir will perform in the SMSU Chorale concert, “Flyover Country,” at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. The choir concert will be at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Music Alumni Weekend will also feature a music alumni reunion Friday night, from 8 to 9:30 at Brau Brothers in Marshall. An alumni reception will also be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Whipple Gallery at SMSU.
