Some changes ahead for MPS administrators

School board approves MMS principal retirement

MARSHALL — Marshall Public Schools will be seeing some changes among its school administrators next fall. At their meeting this week, Marshall school board members approved the retirement of Marshall Middle School Principal Paula Wolter Mattson, and also approved an agreement for a new assistant principal at Marshall High School.

Both items came before the school board as part of the consent agenda at the board’s regular meeting Monday. A list of personnel action items included a notice that Wolter Mattson would be retiring effective June 6. School district administration recommended approval of the notice of resignation for Wolter Mattson.

Wolter Mattson was hired as MMS principal in 2021.

Another item in the consent agenda on Monday was a memorandum of understanding for teacher Hayden McKittrick to become assistant principal at Marshall High School for the 2024-25 school year. The agreement established a one-year initial contract for McKittrick as assistant principal, with the option for McKittrick to return to a teaching position if either he or the school district choose to do so.

In February, the school board had approved a notice of resignation from current MHS Assistant Principal Travis Frazee. Frazee would be stepping down as assistant principal effective June 30.

School board members voted to approve both the list of personnel action items including Wolter Mattson’s retirement, and the assistant principal agreement with McKittrick.
