Marshall approves plat for new SWWC office
MARSHALL — Plans to build a new office building for the Southwest West Central Service Cooperative in Marshall took another step forward Tuesday. Members of the Marshall City Council approved a plat for the proposed building, which would replace the cooperative’s current offices at the Market Street Mall.
“City staff has worked with the surveyor on this plat to help ensure that it conforms to city ordinances,” said Marshall public works director Jason Anderson. Anderson and council member Amanda Schroeder also said that there have not been objections raised to the proposal.
SWWC provides a variety of services to private and public schools and students across an 18-county area. Last fall, the council heard a proposal for SWWC to build a 16,000 square-foot facility on five acres of city-owned land at the corner of London Road and Channel Parkway. About 52 employees would work in the proposed building.
In November, the city council approved a pre-development agreement with SWWC for the land. Marshall Economic Development Authority Director Lauren Deutz said the agreement would give SWWC the land for $1, and allow them to use conduit bond financing for the project.
A public hearing on the preliminary plat for the project was held by the Marshall Planning Commission. Schroeder said there were no comments or concerns from members of the public at that hearing. Commission members voted to recommend approval of the plat.
On Tuesday, city council members held two separate votes, to approve the preliminary plat and the final plat for the project. Both votes passed unanimously.
