Infant’s death at Prairie’s Edge Hotel under investigation
Authorities are investigating the death of a one-month-old infant at the Prairie’s Edge Casino Resort Hotel on Thursday, Upper Sioux Community Police said.
Around 6:25 a.m. Thursday, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call for an unresponsive infant at the hotel, Upper Sioux Community Police Chief Dan DeSmet said in a news release. Emergency medical responders from casino security staff, Upper Sioux Community Police, and Avera Granite Falls Ambulance all responded to the scene.
Responders provided aid, but lifesaving efforts were not successful, the release said. The infant was pronounced dead by medical personnel. The infant was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The incident is currently under investigation, and the Upper Sioux Community Police said no further information is available at this time.
Police were assisted by Granite Falls Ambulance, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
