One injured in explosion at Chandler Feed

CHANDLER — Firefighters from around southwest Minnesota responded to an explosion and fire in Chandler on Wednesday. One person was injured in the blast, said Murray County Sheriff Heath Landsman.

Around 12:38 p.m. Wednesday, Murray County dispatch received multiple 911 calls about an explosion at the Chandler Feed Company in Chandler. Several area fire departments were immediately paged to provide mutual aid at the scene, Landsman said in a news release.

One person was injured in the explosion, and was taken to an area hospital to be treated for their injuries. Their condition is unknown at this time, Landsman said.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 4:20 a.m. on Thursday, Landsman said. The Chandler Fire Department is continuing to monitor the scene to make sure the fire doesn’t re-ignite.

“We would like to thank the local businesses who brought food, water and allowed us to use their buildings to feed and provide for breaks for emergency responders,” Landsman said. “We are very fortunate to live in a small community where people just step up and help their neighbors in times of need.”

Numerous agencies responded at the scene, including the Murray, Pipestone and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Offices; the Minnesota State Patrol; the Buffalo Ridge Drug and Violent Crime Task Force; Chandler Fire Department and First Responders; Slayton Fire Department; Iona Fire Department; Woodstock Fire Department; Pipestone Fire Department; Worthington Fire Department; Edgerton Fire Department and Ambulance; Murray County Ambulance; Murray County Emergency Management; Nobles County Emergency Management; Grimmius Trucking; Bolluyt Trucking; Xcel Energy; and C and J Construction.
