Chemical team responds to semi crash

One injured in tanker rollover on Hwy. 68

MINNEOTA — The Southwest Minnesota Chemical Assessment Team was called out to the scene of a tanker crash on Minnesota Highway 68 on Monday. Minneota Fire Chief Jeff Sussner estimated about 50 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled in the crash.

The driver of the truck was taken to Avera Marshall Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

The crash was reported at 10:30 a.m., in Eidsvold Township, Lyon County. A 2017 Volvo semi driven by Douglas Lee Hansen, 67, of Canby, was traveling northwest when the truck went into the roadside ditch and overturned on its side, the State Patrol said. Hansen was taken to the hospital with injuries.

A cleanup crew worked to contain the diesel in the ditch, and the tanker was offloaded, Sussner said. There were no waterways near the ditch, he said.

The Taunton and Minneota Fire Departments, the Chemical Assessment Team, and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office all responded at the crash scene.
