SLAYTON — A Garvin man charged with sexual assault pleaded guilty to first degree criminal sexual conduct on Monday, Murray County District Court records said.

Tony Dee Ammons, 61, appeared in court on charges of first degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct. A criminal complaint alleged that Ammons sexually assaulted an adult female victim on more than one occasion between December 2021 and March 2023.

On Aug. 28, Ammons entered an Alford plea to charges of first degree criminal sexual conduct, court records said. In an Alford plea, a defendant maintains that he is not guilty of the charges against him, but there would likely be enough evidence to convict him at a trial.

The court ordered a pre-sentencing investigation for Ammons, and a sentencing hearing was set for Nov. 20.
