MARSHALL — Marshall is a community that has seen businesses grow, Megan Greenfield said. It’s one of the reasons that a regional broadband provider is interested in reaching out in the area.
“I think Marshall’s a growing community,” said Greenfield, network account executive for SDN Communications. “Every time I come back there’s something new, or a new business or a new headquarters that’s here.”
Greenfield said SDN Communications, a business-to-business broadband provider, was also hoping to grow in the Marshall area.
“I think that there are a lot of businesses here that we can serve,” she said.
SDN Communications was featured at the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce’s most recent “Business After Hours” event. Chamber and community members had a chance to meet Greenfield and learn about SDN on Wednesday evening.
“We’re based out of Sioux Falls, and we are a business-to-business broadband connectivity provider,” Greenfield said. “We are made up of 17 member companies out of South Dakota, and they help us reach all four corners of the entire state. And then we are just starting to expand our fiber into southwest Minnesota.”
“We serve medium to large businesses, and anyone that needs that reliable network,” Greenfield said.
According to SDN’s website, the company has about 115 employees, and more than 50,000 miles of fiber. In addition to South and North Dakota, the fiber network reaches into Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado.
Greenfield said SDN staff are always there to help field calls and assist the businesses they serve. SDN provides services for businesses including broadband internet, Wide Area Network connectivity, a data center, and managed services. Managed services includes internet security services like firewalls, Greenfield explained.
“It’s a nice add-on to that internet piece,” she said.
Greenfield attended college in Marshall. In her work with SDN, she said she’s been expanding on the relationships she formed in the area.
“I think just making those new relationships, and just showing them what SDN can do, I think is pretty cool,” she said.
Greenfield said she hoped being part of Business After Hours would be an opportunity to let Marshall area residents know more about SDN.
“We just want people to know that we’re here,” she said. “I hope Marshall will be seeing more of SDN in the future.”
