A new look for Marshall Walmart

Store holds community events to celebrate remodel

Marshall City Administrator Sharon Hanson was one of the community representatives who joined Brett Neyens, store manager of the Walmart Supercenter in Marshall, in a ceremony celebrating the completion of a remodeling project at the store. Walmart held a day of games and activities for the public, and made donations to the Marshall Fire Department and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

MARSHALL — Walmart officials and employees joined city representatives on Friday to celebrate the completion of a $6 million renovation of the supercenter.

Walmart store manager Brett Neyens said it was exciting to be able to host the celebration after the 14-week project.

“I can’t express the overwhelming support we’ve been getting over the past few months,” Neyens said.

Neyens said several parts of the project were geared toward customer service and convenience. The store’s online grocery pickup area was moved to a new location, to help support growing interest in using the service, he said. The remodel also includes features like new lighting and signage inside the store, and a mural welcoming customers in the doors. The front end of the store has been reorganized with additional self-checkout lanes, and a “Grab & Go” area for quick meal and drink options.

Neyens said other updates to the Marshall Walmart included “vignettes” displaying what home goods items might look like together in a room. Each display had a QR code that customers could scan to learn more about the items, he said.

“We know that speed and convenience are important to our Marshall customers, so we are continuously looking for new ways to meet their needs,” Neyens said. “By remodeling our stores and expanding time-saving services, such as Grab & Go areas and grocery pickup, we are making shopping easier for busy families.”

Representatives from the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce and the city of Marshall said it was good to see updates to a large business in the city.

“It brings a lot of people into town,” said Chamber President Brad Gruhot.

He said it was also good to see Walmart complete renovations before the start of classes at Southwest Minnesota State University. As students come to town and shop, they’ll see the updated facilities.

“We really like the things that you’ve done to the store,” said Marshall City Administrator Sharon Hanson.

Some of the celebrations on Friday emphasized connections with the Marshall community. Neyens presented the Marshall Fire Department and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office each with a $2,500 grant to support equipment purchases.

Neyens also said Walmart wanted to recognize employees at the Marshall location. He said he appreciated the remodel team, and the Walmart associates in Marshall. Associates who had been with the store since the 1990s were called up and given special recognition.

Starting at $3.95/week.
