MARSHALL -- Construction continues for the Marshall Public School District's new Career and Technical Institute. At the same time, the Pride In the Tiger Foundation is partnering with a Marshall business to help make the project a reality.
This month, PITF received a $10,650 grant from the Taco Bell Foundation, which will go toward equipment and supplies at the CTI.
"It's a privilege to partner with the Taco Bell Foundation in educating and inspiring young people nationwide," said Krista Bjella, executive director of Pride In the Tiger Foundation. "Together, we are working to break down barriers to education for future leaders."
PITF is one of more than 450 youth-serving organizations that will receive community grants from the Taco Bell Foundation this year, a news release said. Since 1992, the foundation has awarded more than $150 million in grants and scholarships focused on education and career readiness.
"We are proud that the work we do through our Community Grants program connects young people with the resources and opportunities they need to learn and drive change," said Jennifer Bradbury, Executive Director of the Taco Bell Foundation.
Marshall Superintendent Jeremy Williams said PITF has been working to help support the establishment of a career and technical education center in Marshall.
Last year MPS bought property along North U.S. Highway 59 in Marshall as a site for career and technical education programs. Currently the district is renovating existing buildings on the property to become home for advanced welding, automotive and Certified Nursing Assistant programs.
In the future, the district also hopes to expand the Career and Technical Institute to include programs in additional industries.
Williams said construction is underway and going well at the CTI site.
"We are slated to open this fall, and are hoping to be open by the start of quarter 2," Williams said. "Pride In the Tiger is supporting this work in a big way, and is helping fund grants for tools, supplies and equipment for the welding, automotive and CNA classes."
