MARSHALL -- Music, dancing and a classic story will be coming together this weekend, as the Marshall Area Stage Company presents its summer musical. Performances of "Tuck Everlasting" will begin this weekend at Marshall Middle School.
Cast and crew members are feeling the anticipation, said co-director Crystal Enga.
"Everyone involved with 'Tuck Everlasting' is looking forward to opening night. You can feel the excitement in rehearsals as we are nearing the opening of the show," Enga said Wednesday.
"Tuck Everlasting" is based on the novel by Natalie Babbitt. The story follows 11-year-old Winnie Foster, played by Elizabeth Novak of Wabasso, as she looks for adventure beyond her home in the town of Treegap, New Hampshire. Winnie befriends Jesse Tuck, played by Nicholas Dunn of Marshall, and learns that his family has the secret of immortality.
During her adventures with the Tuck family, Winnie must decide whether she wants to join them, or live out a normal life.
"This story has a wonderful message that all ages can relate to and enjoy," Enga said. "Audiences can definitely look forward to the large dance numbers in the show, as well as excellent acting from our cast. They so eloquently tell this heartwarming story."
The show also stars Ross Holmberg of Wood Lake as Angus Tuck, Julie Walker of Marshall as Mae Tuck, John Verly of Marshall as Constable Joe, Drew Dunn of Lynd as Hugo and Bob Schwoch of Marshall as the Man in the Yellow Suit.
Crystal Enga, a Lake Benton resident, and Carrie Enga of Marshall are directing the play. Justin Condelli of Marshall is the music director, and Robin Condelli of Marshall is the choreographer.
Crystal Enga said the cast and crew have been "amazing" for her and Carrie to work with.
"Everyone has worked so hard to make this show a success," she said. "Many times during the rehearsal process they came in early to work on choreography or music, and they have really put in the effort to make this show a success. Everyone has been so supportive of each other, and you can tell that they are having a blast on stage together."
Performances of "Tuck Everlasting" will be this weekend and next weekend at the Middle School. Shows will be at 7 p.m. on June 17, 19, and 22. Matinee performances will be at 2 p.m. on June 18, 24, and 25.
