Balaton woman sentenced for fentanyl charges

MARSHALL — A Balaton woman who pleaded guilty in March to possessing fentanyl was sentenced in Lyon County District Court on Tuesday. Court records said Miranda Michelle Sanow, 25, received a prison sentence of more than three years for charges of third degree narcotics sale.

A criminal complaint said Sanow possessed about 5.8 grams of fentanyl at her residence in Balaton, as well as doses of fentanyl packaged for sale.

At Tuesday’s hearing, the court discussed a motion asking for Sanow to be allowed to withdraw her guilty plea. The motion was filed last week, court records said. Sanow’s attorney also filed a letter of support for her, and asked for a downward departure in Sanow’s sentence.

The judge denied the motion to withdraw Sanow’s guilty plea and denied the downward sentence departure, court records said.

Sanow was sentenced to 39 months in prison with credit for 68 days already served. Two additional charges of fifth degree drug possession were dismissed.
