MINNEAPOLIS -- Adam Hicks, son of Brian and Michelle Hicks of Tracy, was named Minnesota FFA Star in Production Placement at the Minnesota State FFA Convention in the Twin Cities. Hicks is one of four Stars named during the evening session April 24.
The FFA Star awards are the top recognition of students who have excelled in their Supervised Agricultural Experience programs. The SAE is a required component of a total agricultural education program and Stars are chosen in four categories: Farmer, Production Placement, Agribusiness, and Agriculture, Food and Natural Resource Science.
Hicks also was also honored as the top proficiency winner in Diversified Crop Production Placement. His fellow chapter member, Lawton Verlinde, earned the winning Proficiency award for Fiber and Oil Crop Production.
Hicks lives and works on Nettiewyynt Farms, raising corn, soybeans, hay and cattle. He has worked on the family farm since third grade, and also works for Hicks Family Hybrids, a seed business.
His farm responsibilities include planting, harvesting, spraying, maintenance and tiling, along with other duties. Hicks is the Tracy Area FFA's second vice president and plans to enter his second year at Ridgewater College in the fall, studying farm management.
The Tracy Area FFA was named sixth place Gold earned a State Superior Award for its activities, while individual members and teams were also recognized in various Career and Leadership Development events.
