Third Street closure on hold
MARSHALL — A planned street closure in part of Marshall’s downtown has been put on hold, due to a changing weather forecast, the city of Marshall Public Works Division said Monday.
The city had planned to close a couple blocks of North Fourth Street for utility work and reconstruction starting Monday. But due to the weekend’s rainy conditions, and a forecast with more chances of showers this week, the closure of Third Street between West Main and Redwood Streets has been postpoined.
Public Works said it plans to put out a press release when more information is available about the anticipated street closure. Constructions will also be posted on the Marshall city website.
The city plans to reconstruct portions of Third Street and West Lyon Street downtown. The work will include replacing water and sewer lines, rebuilding streets, and doing streetscape work. Replacement of the public parking lot at the corner of Lyon Street and East College Drive is also planned as part of the project.
Marshall public works director Jason Anderson said the plan was to start with closing down affected parts of Third Street, while keeping Lyon Street open. In spite of the planned street closure, the public would still have sidewalk access to businesses on Third Street as much as possible, he said.
The goal would be to have the street reconstruction project completed in October. The parking lot reconstruction could possibly be completed later than that, Anderson said.
According to the National Weather Service, daytime temperatures will stay in the 50s and 60s through Thursday, with chances of rain showers Wednesday and Thursday. The weather will turn breezy and colder on Friday, with a chance of snow showers in the afternoon, the forecast said.
