MARSHALL — The Marshall City Council welcomed two new members at a swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday evening.
Returning Ward 3 council member Craig Schafer, and new members John Alcorn and See Moua-Leske all took the oath of office.
Alcorn will be representing Marshall’s Ward 1, in the seat formerly held by John DeCramer, and Moua-Leske will be representing Ward 2, in the seat formerly held by Russ Labat. Both DeCramer and Labat had decided not to run for re-election this fall, saying it was time to see some new faces and more diversity on the city council.
“I’m excited to represent people in Marshall who haven’t been represented before,” Moua-Leske said Tuesday.
Alcorn said it was exciting to have both the opportunity to learn about issues facing Marshall, and to be in a position to help make decisions on them.
Both Moua-Leske and Alcorn said they were looking forward to serving on the city council, and learning more about their positions.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, council members also elected a mayor pro tempore, who would be responsible for fulfilling the mayor’s duties if Mayor Bob Byrnes was absent or unable to do them. Council members elected Schafer to the pro tempore position.
