Andries, Draper win Lyon Co. Board seats
MARSHALL — There will be two new faces on the Lyon County Board after Tuesday’s elections. According to unofficial Lyon County vote totals, Thomas Andries led in the County Commissioner District 1 race over current Commissioner Charlie Sanow. In Commissioner District 2, Todd Draper led against David Sturrock.
“I want to say thank you to everyone that voted for me and had faith in me,” Andries said Tuesday night. “I will do my best to serve my constituents and the county.”
According to unofficial county vote totals, Andries received 963 votes, and Sanow received 637 votes.
Andries said he had a positive experience campaigning, although it was definitely a lot of work.
“I knocked on every door in two townships,” he said.
Andries said when he takes office, he wants to look at ways for Lyon County and the city of Marshall to work together. At a candidate forum this fall, one of the audience questions had raised a concern that the two governments didn’t always work well together, he said.
In Commissioner District 2, unofficial vote totals showed Draper receiving 930 votes, and David Sturrock receiving 861.
“It’s pretty exciting. It looks like it was a close race,” Draper said of the results. Draper said Sturrock did a good job campaigning.
Draper said, as a new member of the county board, that he would be focusing on learning more about county issues when he first takes office. He said there were a “lot of different sides” to hear from.
“I look forward to meeting with (county) department heads and employees, and other commissioners, and learning what’s going on,” he said.
A total of three seats on the Lyon County Board were up for election on Tuesday, in the three districts representing the area of the county in and around the city of Marshall. Only the District 1 and 2 races were contested, however. District 3 Commissioner Paul Graupmann was running unopposed.
