MnDOT removes Highway 68 detour near Porter
PORTER — Construction work on culverts along Minnesota Highway 68 near Porter has been completed, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said.
MnDOT announced that a detour near the city of Porter was removed Tuesday. The main construction detour on Highway 68, between Marshall and Minneota, will remain in place until the end of the project. The completion date of construction is still to be determined.
Work crews have been widening the shoulders of Highway 68 between Marshall and Minneota, as well as replacing culverts in that area and near Porter. When construction is complete, the highway between Marshall and Minneota will have an additional four feet of gravel shoulder on either side of the road.
While the shoulder work is going on, traffic is being detoured onto Minnesota Highway 19 and Lyon County Road 5 to access the city of Ghent, and on Highway 19 and Lyon County Road 3 to get to the city of Minneota. Construction on the project was originally planned to start in May, but was delayed to to issues relocating utility lines along the highway. Work on the highway between Marshall and Minneota started in July instead.
