Marshall man given probation for illegal gambling charge

MARSHALL — A rural Marshall man was given probation after pleading guilty to illegal gambling charges Tuesday, Lyon County District Court records said.

Court records said Lucas Harland Christoffer, 32, pleaded guilty to one count of participating in the income of an electronic gambling place. A second count was dismissed.

A criminal complaint alleged that in 2020, Christoffer ran a Facebook page and website for online poker tournaments, which are illegal in Minnesota. He was charged in May 2022.

Courtroom minutes from an Aug. 23 hearing said a not guilty plea was entered for Christoffer. However, his attorney also said the case was nearing an agreement, court records said.

On Tuesday, Christoffer pleaded guilty to one count of participating in the income of an electronic gambling place. He received a stay of adjudication, and two years probation with conditions including that he pay a $1,000 fine.
