Man dies in farm implement mishap

MARSHALL — A Marshall man was killed in a farm implement accident south of Marshall on Monday afternoon, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said.

The man, identified as Edward Gary Wyffels, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office said. The incident is still under investigation.

At 2:41 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man injured in a farm accident along the 2400 block of Lyon County Road 35. The Sheriff’s Office didn’t release more details on the incident Monday, but Sheriff Eric Wallen said people were working with fertilizer application equipment at the time of the accident.

The Sheriff’s Office, along with North Memorial Ambulance, the Marshall Fire Department and Marshall Police, were dispatched to the scene. The Minnesota State Patrol also assisted.

Emergency responders were at the scene for over two hours. Traffic on County Road 35 and Saratoga Street south of Marshall was detoured while responders were at work.
