Former Upper Sioux Police chief sentenced for firearm discharge

GRANITE FALLS — The former chief of the Upper Sioux Police Department was given probation Wednesday for an incident where he fired a gun in a Clarkfield home, Yellow Medicine County court records said.

Christopher Allen Lee, 53, pleaded guilty to one count of discharging a firearm in a municipality in August. A second count of discharging a firearm, and charges of assault and domestic assault, were dismissed.

At a sentencing hearing, Lee received a stay of imposition of sentence, and two years probation, court records said. His probation conditions included he not use or possess firearms, not enter bars or liquor stores, and that he complete a chemical use assessment.

A criminal complaint said that on April 15, Lee tried to enter a locked bedroom where another resident of the home was. Lee started kicking the door with the resident on the other side of it, and then shot through the door, the complaint said. Law enforcement found a gun on Lee’s dresser that had been fired, the complaint said.

Lee was relieved of his duties as Upper Sioux Police chief following his arrest in April.
