Balaton man arrested after overnight incident

BALATON — Law enforcement officers from several area counties surrounded a residence in Balaton Thursday night after sheriff’s deputies attempted to contact a 53-year-old man suspected of violating an order for protection.

Officers spent several hours trying to speak to the man via a cell phone and a loudspeaker, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said.

The suspect was taken into custody around 4 a.m. Friday, and transported to the Lyon County Jail to be held for court, the Sheriff’s Office said. The Sheriff’s Office said multiple loaded firearms were found near the man at the time of his arrest.

The Sheriff’s Office said were no further public safety concerns posed by the incident.

At 9:30 p.m. Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a violation of an order for protection that had previously happened at a residence on the 200 block of North Lake Avenue in Balaton.

When the deputies tried to make contact, the suspect told them to get off his property, the Sheriff’s Office said. The deputies heard what they believed to be a round being chambered into a gun, the Sheriff’s Office said.
